Instructional Design Librarian-Assistant Professor The University of Alabama seeks a proactive, team-oriented, andinnovative person to serve as Instructional Design Librarian. Theideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively andcreatively with Libraries faculty and University faculty to plan,develop, and deliver library instruction and provide instructionaldesign support to University faculty. This position serves a dualrole as a librarian supporting faculty, staff, and students throughlibrary instruction and research services, as well as supportsUniversity faculty as an instructional design specialist. S/he willdevelop and support training activities for best practices ofutilizing instructional technology tools. The Instructional DesignLibrarian will collaborate with Web Technology and Development tohelp librarians create and design active learning environments,video production, and digital learning objects. The InstructionalDesign Librarian will also work with faculty to help integrateresearch-based information resources into Blackboard. Reporting tothe Coordinator of Creative Media and Instructional Design withinGorgas Information Services, the Instructional Design Librarianwill participate proactively in the department's priorities andinitiatives and will also engage in professional activities. In addition, the Instructional Design Librarian will workcollaboratively with The University of Alabama Faculty ResourceCenter and the College of Continuing Studies to support onlinelearning initiatives. Required: Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited program orMasters in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Education,or a related field. Excellent verbal and written communication, including associatedskills such as listening, negotiating, and adapting. Proven interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to workcooperatively and maintain effective working relationships withcolleagues, faculty, students, and staff. Demonstrated ability to work independently andcollaboratively. Demonstrated ability to plan, initiate, and implement effectiveprograms, projects, and services. Academic library experience. Two to three years of professional experience in an educationalenvironment. Knowledge of teaching methodologies and learningtheories. Knowledge of emerging technologies, standards, and theirapplications to distance education. Demonstrated experience/expertise with relevant academicand instructional design technologies, including but not limitedto: Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360 Suite (Storyline,Rise, Replay), Blackboard Learn or an equivalent LearningManagement System (LMS). Demonstrated strong commitment to customer serviceexcellence. Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a dynamic workenvironment. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively ina complex changing environment and complete tasks according to anestablished timeframe. Ability to conceptualize, communicate, and execute plans to meetshort- and long-term goals. Demonstrated ability to view issues from an institutional andlibrary-wide perspective and to manage organizational change. Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and workingenvironment. Preferred: Online teaching experience. Experience in the systematic design of instruction for online,blended/hybrid and/or traditional courses. Experience designing, developing, and delivering trainingprograms and workshops on teaching methods and technologyutilization in the classroom. Experience using computer-based technologies in educationalenvironments. Familiarity with and dedication to creating accessible content,including familiarity with WCAG 2.0 guidelines for interactive andvideo content. SALARY/BENEFITS: 12-month non-tenure-track, renewal contractfaculty appointment at the assistant professor rank, depending onqualifications.
