In support of our client, a leader in automotive manufacturing, we are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer located near Birmingham, AL. This is a long-term, contract opportunity. JOB OVERVIEW Under general supervision, establishes and maintains Quality systems through analysis, prioritization, investigation, and resolution of product concerns throughout the life cycle of the given product. Provides advanced planning support (Quality specifications, work content, etc.) in the development and launch of new products and processes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assures satisfaction for both internal and external customers by maintaining and improving both system and vehicle quality. Supports product-based cross-functional problem-solving teams (Q-Circles) by way of data analysis, establishing quality targets, and serving as a liaison between various supporting groups to drive problem resolution and promote overall vehicle quality. Supports each shop and functional group in attaining the quality goals of the organization. Plans Quality station layouts and locations. Creates workstation content and interfaces directly with Germany Quality planners (Company Central Quality) to ensure the correct work steps are developed for new models/options. Plans for any new equipment required for new models/options. Plans, creates, and maintains work steps for quality inspectors. Performs routine analysis of internal/external quality sensors to update quality station work steps. Quality sensors include in-process inspection (AP Product), production and quality feedback systems (GFP/VOCA) and process audits. Supports "Quality Built in at the Process" and Continuous Improvement activities throughout operations. Conducts studies to find the most economical solutions for inspection methods, instruments, and test equipment. Assists in the development, implementation and training/use of inspection and test plans, standards and acceptance criteria, and procedures/work instructions, including but not limited to Visual Inspection Standards, Lab Descriptions, and Quality Mercedes Production system. Provides support for developing and evaluating process capability control plans, analysis of out-of-control conditions and process audits with the objective of improving process performance and capability. Develops and maintains control plans for pre-launch and launch activities. Investigate and eliminates systemic quality problems through effective root cause analysis. Follows up on corrective actions, including but not limited to conducting line trial and special evaluations. Assists in the development of training materials and cascades the training to Quality Operations team members for new model and running changes. Supports internal quality audits as well as dynamic and static vehicle evaluations. Supports ramp-up teams through new model development. Assures satisfaction for both internal and external customers by maintaining and improving both system and vehicle quality. Perform safe work practices and participate in training and safety programs in a positive and proactive way by following safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards, and laws. Report all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to supervisor or Human Resources. Work safely 100% of the time. Perform other duties as required. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 2 years' professional experience in Quality. General understanding of statistics and the ability to read schematics. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications. Working knowledge of PLUS system, including programming of MAP steps, fault types and locations in INQA, and the creation of technical attributes. Working knowledge of DIALOG & ZEUS system. Working knowledge of Engineering Client. Experience in creating and modifying standardized work steps. Reasoning skills for problem identification and resolution. Ability to communicate detailed, technical initiatives to non-technical people. PREFERRED Working knowledge of technical German language. Working knowledge of ISO 14000, QS9000, and ISO/TS 16949 Management System. Experience in assessing cost of quality, SPC, and MSA, and in Advanced Product Quality Planning. Black Belt/Green Belt training/certification. Experience in creating and maintaining Process Control Plans.
