This position will help the College to foster application of population health principles in research, scholarship and related research. Major research, teaching, and service responsibilities as outlined below. Ad Text: The College of Community Health Sciences at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa is seeking to recruit an investigator with a PhD degree to serve as a tenure track assistant or associate professor for the Department of Community Medicine and Population Health ( CMPH ) and a research position within the Institute of Rural Health Research. This position will help the College to foster application of population health principles in research, scholarship and related research. Major research, teaching, and service responsibilities as outlined below.Research or scholarship responsibilities may include building a research program using epidemiological behavioral interventions or community health practices to improve outcomes in patients, practices, or communities with emphasis of those in rural areas. The successful candidate will develop and/or maintain an independently or collaborative funded research effort. Individuals who have extramural career development funding such as a K-award or significant independent funding are preferable. The successful candidate will benefit from a collaborative research environment, protected time, and an attractive package to support their research program.Teaching responsibilities may include teaching medical students, residents and fellows, as well as, graduate students in population health; applicants should be outstanding educators who excel in this area. COLLEGE OVERVIEW : The College of Community Health Sciences was founded in 1972 by Dean William Willard, MD, author of the "Willard Report" and known as the "Father of Family Medicine," with a mandate to train family physicians for Alabama, particularly rural areas. The College is one of 12 Colleges of The University of Alabama, the 38,(see application details) Tuscaloosa flagship campus of the UA System. The College also conducts medical student education as the "Tuscaloosa Regional Campus" of the 4-campus University of Alabama School of Medicine, based at UAB in Birmingham. The College's mission focuses on improving the health of individuals and communities in Alabama and the region through leadership in medical education and primary care; by provision of quality health care services; and by scholarship. PROGRAMS : The College is sponsor of the UA Family Medicine Residency and 7 fellowships for Family Physicians. The residency, a 16-16-16 program, is the 2nd or 3rd largest FM residency in the country. Of the over 460 residency graduates, 85% practice in the five state area of the SE, half in rural areas, and comprise one of every seven Family Physicians in Alabama. Over almost 900 students have completed their clinical training in Tuscaloosa since 1972, entering Family Medicine and primary care careers at over twice the national average. The College's nationally recognized Rural Pipeline Programs and the Institute for Rural Health Research, along with basic science, social science, and health professional resources and collaborators on campus among the UA faculty, and innumerable specialty and medical research faculty among UAB faculty, create a uniquely resource-rich environment for a medical educator. The College's clinical enterprise conducts 80,000 ambulatory visits and over 10,000 admissions a year to a broad patient population, including the faculty and staff population of UA. Candidates should have experience in community-based health disparities and health outcomes research, strong methodological skills, and a demonstrated track record of research funding or a robust intention to build a research portfolio. A collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to work in multidisciplinary research teams, experience working with or engaging community-based partners, demonstrated expertise in an area of population or public health research, such as health disparities, rural health, and/or primary care health outcomes is preferred.
