Posting Details Requisition Number: 0812323 Number of Open Positions: 1 Position Title: Associate Professor/Professor Other Title Information: Neurobiologist Organization: 204411 - BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES Position Summary: The College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama (UA) announces a job opening for an Associate or Full Professor of Biological Sciences with expertise in the Neurobiology of Neurodegenerative Disease and Aging. This is classified as a 9-month regular faculty position with tenure.This position is for a doctoral-level neurobiologist with expertise and external funding focusing on either genetics, epigenetics, genomics, and/or metabolic regulation of neurodegeneration and aging using either human datasets, animal model systems or mammalian cell cultures. The successful candidate will utilize either patient-derived induced-pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), rodent models, primary neuronal cultures, organoids, live cell imaging or optogenetics. They may also have expertise in bioinformatics analysis of genome-wide association studies ( GWAS ), whole-genome sequencing ( WGS ), or utilize datasets or experimental approaches including transcriptional profiling, identification of markers of epigenomic regulation, chromatin-immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIPseq), and/or quantification of molecular and/or behavioral characters of health/lifespan and aging. Ideally, the candidate will extend existing strengths in the application of invertebrate and fish models for therapeutic target and drug discovery through a focus on validation and translational research in mammalian and human biology, as it pertains to aging and neurodegenerative disease. This position is also closely aligned with the developing Alabama Life Research Institute ( ALRI ), where the individual will have strong potential for collaboration with faculty members across campus, and will be expected to help lead interdisciplinary research efforts. The ALRI is a focal point for advanced interdisciplinary biopsychosocial research investigating the human condition at all levels, from the molecular to the environmental.
