Overview Pay Grade/Pay Range:--Non Classified - Grade NADepartment/Organization:--206201 - Ctr for Business and Econ ResearchNormal Work Schedule:--Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pmJob Summary:--Assistant Research Personnel conduct research with various faculty members on a variety of projects. Research is supported from contracts and grants awarded for specific time periods. Positions are non-tenure earning staff positions, and may vary in duration, depending on the conditions of the research contract, grant, or project.Additional Department Summary:--This is an open submission process for all persons applying for a research position within the College at The University of Alabama. Persons holding these positions are to conduct research with various faculty members on a variety of projects. Positions are non-tenure earning staff positions. Successful candidates are expected to develop and sustain sponsored research programs and seek and obtain external funding to partially support the specific research program within the College.This position is a crucial part of funded research projects that CBER conducts, two key ones are the "Comprehensive Annual Workforce Studies for Alabama" and Census 2020. The Assistant Research Personnel & Director of Socioeconomics and Demographics will serve as state demographer and lead the CBER socioeconomic analysis and demographics group to enable CBER serve its purpose with research and outreach activities that contribute to the economic development of Alabama. The jobholder should (i) be a researcher who is respected and recognized for his/her work and (ii) have the organizational, communications, and leadership skills required to engage with relevant stakeholders (both public and private) in the state.Required Department Minimum Qualifications:--A Ph.D. degree in demography or related discipline (e.g. sociology, economics, statistics, data science, etc.) with demonstrated experience in and knowledge of (i) data on socioeconomics and demographics; (ii) relevant research methods, techniques, principles, materials, and procedures; (iii) preparing scholarly/professional/creative publications from research findings; and (iv) producing material for public consumption and policy. Or a Master's degree and a minimum of ten (10) years experience in the fields and areas described will be considered.Background Investigation Statement: Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and information obtained from social media and other internet sources.
