Management of a profit center with monthly revenues and profit targets. Management of technical consultants.ACCOUNTABILITIES: Accountable for the business function of providing fee-based problem-solving services to Smithers MSE NA clients that encompass rubber materials, processes and products. Accountable for assuring that clients expectations are managed, and clients are satisfied with services provided. Accountable for both short and long-term financial results of the Consulting function unit by setting strategy that ensures the business unit is sustainable and profitable. Accountable for establishing and maintaining communications with clients that Manage risks and exposure at a consultant level and at a Company level associated with the Consulting activities of interpreting information, drawing conclusions from investigations, and providing recommendations to clients.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the consulting service business function that addresses polymer and polymer products. Analyze tire performance and other polymer products in non-forensic and forensic matters. Direct selling of consulting services to clients. Provide technical services and advice to multiple clients. Provide services to the marketing of the consulting department and MSENA as a whole with technical conference presentations, webinars, and technical articles. Manage client consulting programs. Draw conclusions and make recommendations to clients from Consulting technology programs. Design and supervise tire and other polymer product benchmarking programs. Hands- on tire and tire manufacturing experience. Hiring and management of department consultants.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the consulting staff. Supervisory duties are to be carried out in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:This position requires a broad understanding of tire design, manufacturing, testing, performance analysis and forensic tire analysis, as well as the ability to sell consulting projects and to communicate opinions in layman's terms. Minimum of bachelor's in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. MBA a plus. At least 15 years of experience with a major tire company. Previous experience in Tire Development (Tire Technology) department. Management experience in a polymer products technology environment. Rubber compound design and rubber products failure analysis experience, especially tires. Project sales and management skills. Hands-on technical-project work, including program design, data analysis and report writing. Computer skills, and overall technical terminology familiarity i.e. terms of raw materials, polymer mixes and processing. Understanding of reinforcements for rubber products (tires, hoses, and belting). Experience in conducting tire plant technology audits. Understanding of statistical analysis techniques and their practical applications in industry. Public presentation skills. Product litigation expert witness experience a plus (deposition, affidavit and trial)TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE: Tire materials, compounds and reinforcements - understanding/experience. Tire manufacturing - understanding/experience of all stages - raw materials to finished products. Rubber products testing - understanding/experience; machine and on-vehicle. Tire industry - understanding/experience: players, markets, market strengths & weaknesses, market trends - worldwide.
