Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYGreet and direct the public to the appropriate area of the office for assistance, answer phone lines, data entry, assist with social media, assist in our adoption, foster, and reception area. Provide friendly and knowledgeable service. This position will rove between different offices spaces to help where needed.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssist members of the public as they enter the facility, directing them to the appropriate area of the facility in accordance with their needs.Handle and oversee use of cash drawer and receipt for donations.Answer multiple phone lines and provide friendly and knowledgeable service, answering questions in a professional manner and deferring to appropriate staff if guidance is needed.Fulfill tasks as directed by staff members such as: Printing and folding brochures, making phone calls, mail-outs, etc.Stock office areas as needed.Process adoptions, help with the foster process.Draft correspondences and other formal documents as needed.Other job functions asked to perform in office setting.EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Will be asked to communicate with the public in a variety of ways daily in a professional manner. Must have typing ability, communicate clearly and correctly in written word as well as spoken word. General use of computers and phones (must have experience with MS Office). Must be upbeat, friendly, and highly motivated. Must be familiar with social media. Must be able to learn basic veterinary concepts such as vaccine protocols, deworming protocols, and information about diseases prevalent in animals. Must be able to stand or sit for 8 or more hours. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must have good range of motion, have good vision, and possess good hand-eye coordination. Must be able to work under stressful situations and work efficiently and effectively under those conditions. Must be able to cope with varying degrees of injured animals and with euthanasia. Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain calm. Ability to rapidly and accurately process information. Ability to recognize the need for assistance and ask for help. Ability to work independently and work as a team.POTENTIAL FOR PROLONGED EXPOSURE Prolonged exposure to various aqueous solutions, including but not limited to, dish soaps, laundry detergents, bleach, etc. Prolonged exposure to hydrogen peroxide. Prolonged exposure to various zoonotic diseases.PREFERREDCandidate should be a highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a positive professional attitude. Customer service experience preferred. Experience working in an animal shelter environment or veterinary clinic preferred.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe offices and operations of an animal shelter can be high stress and very busy at times. This position can have a changing schedule based upon need. The schedule may require evening, weekend, holiday, and over-time work if necessary. Candidate must be flexible with schedule changes and short notice requests.Company DescriptionWe are a 501c3 non-profit agency. We bid on a contract every three years to manage the shelter. We are funded by a tri-government entity made up of the City of Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County Commission, and the City of Northport. The funds received from the governments enable us to maintain the shelter building/grounds and its employees. Along with these funds, we also receive donations, redemption, and adoption fees to provide medical services and surgeries to the animals in our care.We supply the following services to our community: Take in lost/found animals, perform adoptions, cat trap rentals, shelter outreach, humane education, rescue work, foster program, volunteer program, intake diversion, spay/neuter discount program, and reunite lost animals with owners, provide a dog walking program to the community called Happy Hour.Mission StatementOur mission is to provide resources, programs, and information needed to build a more humane community that values animals and promotes compassion and kindness towards them, embraces responsible pet ownership, and promotes the animal/human bond.Vision StatementOur vision is to inspire community involvement in animal welfare and motivate the public to embrace responsible lifelong pet ownership.
