Job Description:

SUMMARY

The Process Engineer is responsible for managing process improvement projects using standard

process improvement tools, adherence to company safety policies, and implementation of sound

management practices. Responsible for verifying systems that drive product quality that meets

customer expectations as well as supporting systems that encompass raw material quality, process

control, process troubleshooting, process optimization, and production improvements. The

Process Engineer will interface with corporate, plant operations and other functions to prioritize

and work on plant needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

15% Resource for creating and maintaining Production Work Instructions, JSAs, Troubleshooting

Guides, Process Targets, and other technical knowledge documents. Provide support to the

Production Team for compliance, training, and operator knowledge growth.

Assist with leading the execution of Quality and Process Improvement projects and activities, using

standard Process Improvement tools such as Qualpro, MVT/DOE, Kepner Tregoe PSDM. Use the

Hierarchy of values (Safety, Quality, Service, Cost) to prioritize. Lead and/or participate in

planning and/or execution of capital improvements resulting from these projects. Assist with

project justification and implementation as needed; track performance.

Lead and/or Participate on problem solving teams and project teams as a technical resource geared

towards improving performance of existing processes and raw material handling systems.

Leader and Plant Resource for managing the application and interpretation of SPC control charting

of process and product quality variables and raw material utilization for plant center lining and support process troubleshooting.

10% Coordinate Plant Trials with Corporate Support Groups (i.e. R&D, Supply Chain, ProcessEngineering Services, etc.) and plant personnel. Trials could include process improvement, raw materials, cost reduction, corporate initiatives, new products, etc. Ensure trials are accurately planned, communicated, conducted, and reported.

10% Conduct internal compliance audits of production tasks, quality testing, process specifications, and other in-plant processes. Interface with Maintenance and Production to ascertain and identify operating and maintenance problems.

5% Ensure the plant maintains compliance with Corporate Quality Standards and Systems.

5%Performance Reporting for process and quality details on a monthly and daily basis as well as Root

Cause Failure Analysis for downtime, scrap, or quality claims.

Complete benchmarking with other plants to find opportunities that other plants are already

utilizing.

Recommend capital projects in an effort to systematically improve the performance of the

manufacturing process with new or modified equipment which will improve cost and quality.

Contribute to site safety program and compliance to GAF's safety policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

Education/Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.

5 - 7 years industrial manufacturing experience, 2 years quality experience preferable
