Job Description:
Summer Intern Program Job Description Through the intern
program, you will gain hands-on experience in a poultry processing
complex, broadening your understanding of poultry production and
the skills and competencies that will lead to long-term success.
The program is designed to provide interns with the opportunity to
gain exposure to various disciplines and to build a network of
contacts around the complex. Peco Foods, Inc. is committed to
building relationships with colleges, universities, and other
schools that are training future leaders and managers and to
providing job opportunities to students through internships and
other educational settings. The program also helps in recruitment
and retention strategies and efforts to build a strong and viable
company for the future that will continue to serve our customers.
Internship opportunities may be available in operations in
Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. The objective of the program is
"For each intern to gain a working knowledge of a vertically
integrated poultry company". Length of the Program: Ten (10) to
Twelve (12) weeks from late May until early August Assignment of
interns:
Interns will be assigned to a Peco Foods facility where they will
receive hands-on training in all aspects of live production and/or
processing. Live Production to include Pullets, Hens, Broilers,
Hatchery, Feed Mill, and Live Haul Processing to include Live
receiving, Kill, Picking, Evisceration, Debone, Cut-up, 2nd
Processing, IF, Marination, Further Processing, Par Fry, Shipping,
Sanitation and Quality Assurance. Interns will receive constant
feedback on performance during assignments and a written
performance review upon completion of the internship (We believe
performance feedback must be ongoing in order to fully develop your
full potential). Interns are required to work in all assigned areas
of the company Interns are required to work all assigned shifts Job
assignments require physical labor such as lifting, standing, and
walking for extended periods of the work day, shoveling ice,
hanging live birds, and other duties as assigned. Work closely with
supervisor to ensure success
Eligibility requirements:
Must be enrolled full-time the semester prior to the internship
Junior or Senior-level students who are in good standing and who
have demonstrated or expressed an interest in agricultural,
poultry, or animal sciences Successful interview and acceptance by
Human Resources and the relevant facility manager
Job Competencies:
Good communication skills (Written and Oral) Strong Computer skills
Strong Leadership skills Good analytical skills
