Posting Details Posting Details (Default Section) Requisition Number: 0811916 Number of Open Positions: 1 Position Title: Post Doc Other Title Information: Post-Doc Fall 2019 Organization: 212701 - SPECIAL ED AND MULTIPLE ABILITIES Position Summary: Under the mentorship and support of Dr. Greg Benner and his research team, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will focus their efforts on creating an independent research agenda related to improving the behavioral and mental health, and/or behavioral and academic outcomes of youth with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). The Fellow will anchor their research agenda within a whole child education, and/or a multi-tiered system of support framework. The Fellow will have access to the expertise of an existing research team, both multi-state and international, and will also experience implementation opportunities. This fellowship carefully balances mentorship with independence. Ad Text: The University of Alabama, College of Education seeks an innovative individual for a non-tenure earning Post Doctoral position in Special Education and Multiple Abilities Program. The position is available from 8/16/19-8/15/20. The Fellow will engage existing Whole Child Initiatives within international communities, indigenous communities, and a range of communities in the United States (i.e., urban, rural). The Fellow will study implementation factors, practices, interventions, and contexts that impact sustainable school and community transformation. The focus of this Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship is to attain and refine skills to independently investigate tiered behavioral and mental health and/or academic interventions for youth with EBD. This focus aims to improve the behavioral outcomes of youth with EBD, as well as the skill sets of the staff that work within these settings. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will work collaboratively with Dr. Benner and his research team on (a) creating the research agenda; (b) executing the research agenda; -- disseminating the research findings through peer-reviewed journals and conferences; (d) providing new and on-going professional development related to the research agenda; and (e) writing and co-writing grants to support the current and future research agendas with applied setting partners. This collaboration will include opportunities to join ongoing and future research projects across the United States and internationally. Qualifications: The applicant (a) must hold a terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., J.D.) in special education, criminology, psychology, mental health, or a related area; (b) will have work and/or research experience within special education, alternative education, residential facilities, and/or juvenile justice facilities; -- will have a demonstrated record of teaching and/or research experience related to multi-tiered systems of support, implementation science, or whole child education (http://www.wholechildeducation.org/) frameworks; (d) will have a demonstrated record of social, emotional, and behavioral intervention-related research experiences; (e) will have expertise and experiences in a methodology (e.g., group designs and/or single case designs) as demonstrated through coursework and research experiences; and (f) will have earned a terminal degree within the last three years. Preferred: The applicant will have (a) interests in a combination of behavior and academic instruction or behavior and mental health supports; (b) exposure to grant writing (e.g., coursework, assisting with); -- statistical and evaluation skills per exposure to coursework and/or experiences; and (d) a commitment to future employment in higher education within this area. After the initial one year appointment, the position may be renewable for a second year based on performance and available funding. The search will remain open until the position is filled.
