NHS Management, a leading healthcare company based in Tuscaloosa, AL, has an opening for a Payroll Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting family.

What will you do to be successful in the role? The main focus for the Payroll Accountant is preparing, generating, and maintaining payroll documentation. This typically includes preparation of quarterly/annual returns for all reporting authorities and associated reconciliations and balancing entries, ensuring the accuracy of all information and adherence to government policies and guidelines with extreme accuracy.

What skills, experience and education do you need? We're looking for individuals with a B.S. in Accounting and 1 to 3 years of experience performing tasks related to the payroll function of an organization.

What are some of the tasks and responsibilities are most common in this role?

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax returns for city, county, state and federal reporting authorities; including SUI, 940, 941, W3, and other returns.
  • Reviewing, balancing, correcting and importing payroll batches into the general ledger system in a timely and systematic manner. This includes reconciliations of benefits, vacation sick and holiday, and workers compensation.
  • Maintaining schedules of payroll cash (net payroll).
  • Maintaining schedules on payroll tax remittances for city, county, state and federal purposes and schedules of health insurance weekly draft invoices.
  • Updating FICA and Federal tax payments due for any manual payroll checks processed.
  • Works directly with the controller, assistant controller, accounting manager and payroll manager to assist in preparing the organization for its annual audit by the independent Certified Public Accountants.
